David MacLean (1854-1929)

David MacLean born 1854, died 1929, was a farmer and a carpenter. In his youth, he worked on the construction of the Intercolonial Railroad, later in life, he built and operated a general store.

On April 10/1878, David's father Angus Jr., transferred the western half of the MacLean farm in return for promise of care and sustenance. In 1880, David purchased from his father clear title of the 52 acre lot on the Black Land estate and the eastern half of the Archibald Cook lot.

David who married Catherine Cook returned to his father the eastern half of the property in 1880. The property purchased in 1880 was sold in 1881 to his sister-in-law (wife of John) Elizabeth. Later in 1881, David purchased property from William Winton where they lived the remainder of their life.

David and Catherine both spoke Gaelic and when they wished to speak privately they used the Gaelic language. David died in 1929 and Catherine in 1913.
