In the late 1800's, early 1900's we find at least five or six hotels in this little town; The Intercolonial, Commercial, Royal, Minto and Waverly are known for sure. Wright's directories (1899) names 7 Hotelkeepers; S.J. Jardine, H. R. Murray (Commercial), Wm Sproul, N. Bernatchez & Co., Mary O'Keefe, D. Desmond and J. Sproul.

We know also that Thomas J. Gorman was the owner of the Minto Hotel in 1905 and he left town in Aug. of 1910 after the fire, when the hotel was lost, to run a Hotel in Port Elgin according to the Graphic.

Here is a list of the hotels and their owners and some pictures of them

INTERCOLONIAL HOTEL
situated on Main st. in Campbellton, by the I.C.R. depot
Proprietor: D. O'Keefe

WAVERLY HOTEL

Centrally situated (Main st., or today Water) close to ferry and post office
proprietress: Mrs. John F. Jardine

On this picture there are banners on the building which announcing
"Cole Bros., World Greatest Toured Shows, Campbellton Saturday July 11th"
July 11th fell on a Saturday in 1896, 1903 and 1908
Over the door in the smallest part of the building on the right there are some writings but all I can decipher is "Laundry" and over the door on the main part of the building it says "Waverly Hotel"

The Waverly as it stood in the ownership of Mr. Gorman after it was re-built post fire of 1910

COMMERCIAL HOTEL

situated directly across the I.C.R. Depot

(after Mr. Murray passed away, Mrs. Murray re-married to Joseph Damboise on Aug.1/1912
and together they became the owners of the Cross Point Hotel across the river

ROYAL HOTEL

MINTO HOTEL

Owner M. Thomas J. Gorman
Listed in the Campbellton Graphic Aug. 5/1910
"Mr. T. J. Gorman, whose hotel, the Minto, burned in the fire
left to run a hotel at Port Elgin"

CHATEAU RESTIGOUCHE

Some years after the fire of 1910, this "Chateau Restigouche" was built on Roseberry St.
it was a great Hotel, and it stood for many years but was left to go to ruins by owners
and had to be destroyed a few years ago. What a Shame!
