Located about 5 minutes drive West of Campbellton
along the Bypass highway
It use to be nothing but a mud hole of a lake way back in the woods
behind Atholville, NB., until a few years ago it was decided to build
the highway through that part of the woods and right next to the lake
Beavers since then have built a dam at the Western part of the lake
and it has grown to be a pretty nice little place today
I for one have sat there many hours admiring nature and its wonders
I have fished there also, the waters have trout, catfish, brook chubs
minnows, crawfish, salamanders and who knows what else :)
In the winter time its pretty quiet but come spring, it comes alive
with all sorts of sounds, nest building, flying and creeping about
It harbors Pied billed Greebes in the summer, Ring neck Ducks, Mallard
Ducks, Black Ducks, Scaups, Wood Ducks, beavers, muskrats, American
Bitterns, Red wing Blackbirds, Goldfinches, Kingfishers, Mergansers
and many warblers and other songbirds. I have observed many Ospreys
fishing the lake and even a great Bald Eagle once flew overhead and
landed in the trees across the lake, what a site
Bears walk along the Hydro line in the back of the lake and can be seen
with their cubs, many fox and other mammals live near the lake
Moose and deer are seen regularly also
I even watched a coyote scamper out of the marsh one day
Being directly in line with the land the Duff family had in Atholville
and or Tide Head, and bearing the name Duff's lake, I have not gone to look
at land deeds or for other proof but one can imagine
