I have no idea when this gorgeous picture was taken, except it was before the fire of 1910. A coal shed can be seen sitting on the river and a three mast ship is loading or unloading. Sugarload mountain in the background and the houses seem so close and huddled together, one can understand why when that famous day arrived and fire started in the Shives Mill seen here on the left, it didnt take long for all those homes to be burnt. The fire dept. then was nothing but a sort of sleigh on wheels drawn by a team of horses.
